Labor & Employment Section

The Labor & Employment Section is devoted to providing an educational and social form for its members to discuss various aspects of labor and employment law.  The section is comprised of members with diverse experience and practices in the labor and employment area.  From employer-side to employee-side, to neutral practitioners, all labor and employment attorneys will find considerable value in section membership.  The section hosts monthly luncheons on a wide range of topics, including: pertinent legislative activity, wage-and-hour issues, employee discipline, workplace investigations, hot issues with the NLRB, healthcare issues, arbitration, and mediation.  The section is always looking to grow, to provide for diverse perspectives, and foster meaningful working relationships.

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Labor & Employment Law Section website! We are comprised of Labor & Employment Law attorneys who practice on behalf of plaintiffs, management and in neutral capacities. We are excited for a new season of MCLE luncheons and events, starting with an MCLE on the New Regulations on Transgender Expression and Identity in the Workplace. We will also be announcing the details for our Fall Mixer soon, which is a great opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues in the Sacramento legal community.

Thank you to our outgoing Executive Committee member, Chris Hammer, and Chair Emerita, Leslie Ellis, for their wonderful work in making the Labor and Employment Law Section and thrive in Sacramento County. Additionally, we welcome our esteemed new Executive Committee members, below. We are looking forward to collaborating on what is shaping up to be a great year!

As always, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or suggestions for MCLE luncheon topics or speakers.  We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Sincerely,

Natalie Bustamante

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Labor and Employment Law Section invites section members and others to submit articles on current issues in labor and employment law and practice for publication in our monthly newsletter.  The editors would like the article we publish to reflect and respect the diversity of our membership.  Thus, while articles may be written from a particular viewpoint (employee, management, union), whenever possible, articles should address relevant issues from all perspectives.

Articles should be between 750 and 1000 words.  Citations are optional but if used, it is the author’s responsibility to verify their accuracy.  The editors reserve the right to edit articles for reasons of space or for other reasons, to decline to print submitted articles, or to invite responses from those with other points of view.  Please e‐mail your submission to any of the above-listed committee members.
